level: beginner

Compared to normal laptops, Google Chromebooks are quite affordable, and provide good quality. ARM based devices have the advantage over x86 devices, that they do not have an auxiliary processor like the Intel Management Engine or the AMD Platform Security Processor. But, normally their free Linux graphics driver does not support the hardware acceleration features of the graphics device.

The other advantage of Google Chromebooks and -boxes is, that they ship with a coreboot based firmware. To fully trust the system, some users prefer to build the firmware themselves.

This talk presents the necessary steps and talks about the challenges needed on an Acer Chromebook R 13.
